Colby United Methodist Church offers a variety of learning opportunities for adults, youth, and children of all ages.
Children's Ministries
Children's Sunday School
Children's Sunday School is held on Sunday mornings from 9:00am-9:45am during the school year (September-May). It is offered for children age 4 through 4th Grade. Each week children engaged in a fun lesson, video, and activity.
Psalty Singers
Psalty Singers, a children's singing group, is offered as a part of Sunday School. This ministry is for children ages 4 through 4th grade. It meets on Sunday mornings from 9:00am to 9:15am during the school year (September through May) and performs every 4 to 6 weeks in worship.
Learning To Use My Bible
“Learning To Use My Bible” is a class for 3rd/4th Grade children. The class meets on Sunday mornings during the Sunday School hour at 9:00am. Kids learn the books of the Bible, Bible stories, communion, baptism, and the Lord's Supper.
In addition, children acolyte each Sunday, doing the important task of bringing in the light of Christ and leading the light of Christ out into the world following the service.
Youth Group
Sunday Morning Classes
Sunday School classes for youth and children of all ages are available every Sunday from 9:00am-9:45am during the school year!
- Search for Life (5th-8th) - Students in the 5th-8th grades focus on the basics of the Christian faith, culminating in being confirmed or baptized as a full member at the end of 8th grade. The class has several opportunities throughout the year to "Ask the Pastor Anything," meet with mentors, participate in service projects and fundraisers, and participate in a mission trip during spring break.
UMYF (United Methodist Youth Fellowship) - (a.k.a. Youth Group)
Youth Group for grades 7-12 meets on Sunday evenings from 5-6. We will meet in the Youth Group room at the church unless announced otherwise. The group will learn, talk, eat, and work together as well as engage in a monthly mission activity. We plan to do a mission trip in late spring. Details will be posted when plans are finalized. All are welcome!
Summer Youth Program
The mission of the CUMC Summer Program is to act as an outreach ministry embodying the Social Principles of the United Methodist Church, which maintain that education is the responsibility of the church as well as of the family and the schools, and instructs the use of "innovative methods of education designed to assist every child toward complete fulfillment as an individual person of worth."
Registration forms and booklets for the program are available in May of each year. If you have had children participate in the program in the past, you will receive a booklet via email. You may also download the booklet (when it becomes available). If you would like to be added to our mailing list please contact the church office by email at office@colbyumc.org or by phone 785-460-2761.
If you have a special gift or hobby that you'd like to share with children, please contact the church office or Trish Starbuck (CUMC Summer Youth Program Director).
Vacation Bible School
We host Vacation Bible School every summer for kids who have completed at least one year of preschool through those who have completed 4th grade. We typically schedule VBS for a four days during the month of July! Details for this year's VBS can be found here!
Adult Ministries
ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL

The Adult Sunday School class meets from 9-9:45 am every Sunday.
ALL adults are welcome to join the class!
UMWIF (United Methodist Women in Faith)
UMW and its circles meet monthly. It is a community of women whose purpose is to know God, develop a supportive fellowship, and to participate in global ministries of the church. All women are encouraged to get involved with UMW.
MEN'S GROUP
"The Men's Group" meets weekly for breakfast and fellowship. All men are invited to breakfast Wednesday mornings at 7:00 a.m. The group wraps up in time for those who need to be at work by 8:00.
CHOIR
The CUMC Chancel Choir practices every Sunday morning at 9:15 during the school year. It perform a variety of arrangements on Sunday mornings throughout each year. New voices are always encouraged to join the choir, so if you love to sing - please contact the church office for more information! Middle and High School singers are encouraged to join choir as well!
SATURDAY EVENING GAME NIGHT
ALL are invited to come from 6 pm to 9 pm for Game Night! Keep an eye on the church calendar and in the bulletin for scheduled times (typically Game Night is held once a month). Light snacks and nursery services are provided along with a variety of many different games for people of all ages! Please feel free to bring your own games and snacks to share, as well!
